Dani Bowers, President, BVRA

I have worked in the veterinary industry since July 2017, starting as a small animal Veterinary Receptionist and quickly discovering the breadth and importance of the role. I went on to work with practice management to create a dedicated reception staff trainer role before progressing to Team Leader at the practice’s main hospital. Alongside my practical experience, I completed a Level 3 NVQ in Customer Service.

In 2021, I was given the opportunity by the BVRA to deliver my first lecture at the virtual SPVS/VMG Congress, highlighting the impact of Covid-19 on front-of-house teams and raising awareness of the vital role they play in practice. I subsequently became one of the BVRA’s first ambassadors, representing veterinary receptionists across the UK, and have since written magazine and CPD content, developed training tools and delivered lectures at BVRA and SPVS congresses. I began my Presidency term in April this year following maternity leave and relocation to Wales, and now work within a small CVS practice in Carmarthen, where I enjoy the hands-on and rewarding nature of being part of a close-knit team.

Hannah qualified from the RVC in 2001, before starting work in a rural practice which had been rocked by the impact of that year’s Foot and Mouth Outbreak. Between 2007 and 2022 she was a partner in a mixed practice in the Welsh borders, latterly concentrating on small animal work. An interest in workplace psychology and mental health prompted Hannah to complete a Psychology MSc, which was followed by work in academic and coaching roles. Hannah is now a trustee of Vetlife and also works part time as a Claims Advisor for the Veterinary Defence Society.

I currently work in small animal practice; I work as an academic tutor in surgery for BSAVA and I work for Vet Led running immersive simulation and human factors training.

I have taught debrief training and simulation training at undergraduate level, on new graduate programmes and as CPD programmes for experienced vets in practice.

I have a Masters in Higher Education and I am a Senior Fellow of Higher Education Authority.

Francesca Verney, Pet People

Francesca is all about pets and their people. Graduating in 2012 from Cambridge, she pivoted away from cows to the big smoke where she has worked ever since in a range of Veterinary roles. A baptism-of-fire New grad job in Croydon, followed by nearly a decade at Village Vet seeing its transition from Independent to Linnaeus-owned ensured. During this time she moved from all clinical work to a Lead Vet job and eventually the London Lead Clinical Director role, overseeing the financial performance, clinical standards and people happiness for 21 sites including a 24hr hospital. Now smitten with leadership and all things business, she couldn’t resist the lure of entrepreneurship (who can?) and opened Pet People Vets together with Ian Stroud in 2022. Truly believing in collaboration she also setup LIVE (London Independent Vet Enterprise) in the same year as a community, knowledge-sharing group which hosts non-clinical CPD and converses actively about all things start-up. An unashamedly committed vet, Francesca spends lots of time in the consult room still, enjoys learning and contributing to the profession outside of her practice, runs ultramarathons very slowly and cares for two little people one of whom is currently pretending to be a dog full time.
